South Florida Dining Events This Week: Blue Moon Fish Company and More
Sad news over the weekend with word that Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the mother-effing moon for Christ’s sake, passed away. You can pay homage to the man — and the wonders of the universe in general — at a blue moon party on Friday night at Blue Moon Fish Company in Fort Lauderdale.Â
Meanwhile, there are several other food and drinking events this week in Broward and Palm Beach counties, many of which center around beer. After the jump, find a roundup of happenings in Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and elsewhere.Â
Tonight
Blue Moon Fish Company kicks off week of special events
This seafood restaurant in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is hosting four special events this week, starting with Monday Date Night at 6 p.m. For $ 99, a couple can get an appetizer, two salads, two entrees, two desserts, and a bottle of red or white wine. On Wednesday afternoon, the Blue Moon will launch a new cocktail and app menu. Thursday night, they’ll host a wine tasting with varietals from New Zealand and passed hors d’oeuvres; the event is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and costs $ 25 per person. Everything comes to a close Friday night with the Blue Moon Party to celebrate, well, the blue moon. There will be tapas, cocktails, and live music, starting at 10 p.m.
Tuesday
Florida Beer Company eventÂ
This week is all about Florida beer — no complaints, here — and World of Beer in Coconut Creek is getting in on the action with a Meet the Locals event with brews by Florida Beer Company. The three featured drafts are Florida Beer Lager, Key West Sunset Ale, and Swamp Ape IPA and there will be giveaways throughout the night for those spotted with a local beer. One of the prizes up for grabs is a Florida Beer Company bike. Â
Cinema a la Mode: Cooking class and a movie
Most cooking classes are a bit of an investment, but the monthly Cinema a la Mode Cooking Class & a Movie events at Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale are cheap as hell. Bargain priced at $ 9 to $ 13, you’ll get a demo on how to make a few tapas and sangria, a sampling of the bites, and a ticket to watch a movie at 7:30 p.m. The cooking segment starts at 6:30 p.m. Call 954-525-3456. Â
Wednesday
Wine & Dine Wednesday at Riverside Hotel on Las Olas
Preston’s Wine & Martini Lounge inside the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale is hosting a wine pairing with five wines matched with five tapas crated by chef Toby Joseph. The tasting is 6 to 9 p.m. and the cost is $ 30 per person. Seats are limited and reservations are requested. Call 954-467-0045.Â
Thursday
Cantina Laredo new menu preview event
If you don’t have a problem processing tequila on a “school night,” Cantina Laredo in Palm Beach Gardens is putting together a little preview night to promote its new menu of “modern gourmet Mexican dishes.” The items will be paired with Cabo Wabo and the cost is $ 15 per person. The preview is 6 to 8 p.m. Reserve a spot by calling 561-622-1223.Â
Blue Point Brew Night
While World of Beer in Coconut Creek is celebrating a Sunshine State beer on Tuesday (see above), the Wellington WOB outpost will focus on New York-born Blue Point Brewing Company on Thursday night. Among the brews available will be Hoptical Illusion, Toasted Lager, RastafaRye, Blueberry Ale, Pale Ale, Oktoberfest, Pumpkin, White IPA, and Oatmeal Stout (notice the high number of fall beers available on that list? Good times).
FAU Green Market opens
A sign that Florida’s hell summer is drawing to a close? The slow return of farmers’ markets, including the weekly Green Market at FAU, which opens for the season from 4 to 8 p.m. The market can be found in Stadium Plaza on the Boca Raton campus.Â
