South Florida Dining Events This Week: Hoptimism and More

Sad (but not surprising) to say, tonight’s beer and cheese pairing at Funky Buddha Lounge is sold out. But there are still plenty of other barley-soaked happenings, plus other food and drink events, this week in Broward and Palm Beach counties. After the jump, find a list of dining events in South Florida.

Tonight

The Blind Monk Turns Two

West Palm Beach wine/beer bar The Blind Monk will celebrate its two-year anniversary tonight with activities like a make-your-own s’mores bar, raffles, and a contest. The festivities start around 4 p.m. and continue until midnight.

Wednesday

Free wine-appreciation class

Local wine expert Bob Burchill will give a free demo on wine appreciation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Mandel Public Library in West Palm Beach. Find more details about the event here.

Hoptimism: A Brewer’s Benefit for Alzheimer’s Community Care

Tequesta Brewing Company is hosting a fundraiser to benefit Alzheimer’s Community Care. A $ 25 admission fee gets you a tour of the brewery, a pint of the Tequesta beer of your choice, a meet and greet with the brewmasters, and hors d’oeuvres. The event is 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Thursday

SAIA at Sunset

SAIA in Fort Lauderdale will host its monthly sunset dinner with five courses prepared by chef Subin Chenkorsorn, and each course is paired with wine. The meal starts at 7:15 p.m., but guests should arrive at 7 p.m. The cost is $ 54 for solo diners or $ 99 for a couple, and the cost includes free valet parking. Make a reservation via OpenTable.

Sommelier Charlie Arturaola at the Art of Wine and Food Series

The already popular monthly wine series at the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale gets a boost this week with the appearance of noted sommelier Charlie Arturaola. The celebrity oenophile will participate in a question and answer session that follows the premiere of the film “El Camino del Vino” in which he appears. The event is 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and the cost is $ 50 per person. Reservations are required; 954-262-0249, or online.

Second Annual Chefs Up Front Dinner & Auction

Ten South Florida chefs — like Andy Trousdale and Adrianna Calvo — will participate in this fundraiser that matches a table of ten to a chef who will prepare a four-course meal for those guests. Some of the tables have already sold out, but seats remain for a few of the chefs. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction and reception. The dinner starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $ 200 and benefits go to FLIPANY, which focuses on introducing youth and adults to fitness and nutrition programs. The dinner will be held at the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel.

Friday

Sushi & Stroll

If you missed out on last weekend’s Bon Festival at Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens, you can console yourself with sake and snacks at the monthly Sushi & Stroll at 5:30 p.m. Find more details about the popular event here.

Food Matters Official Trailer

www.foodmatters.tv “Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food.” — Hippocrates That’s the message from the founding father of modern medicine echoed in the controversial new documentary film ‘Food Matters’ from first- time Producer-Directors James Colqhuoun and Laurentine ten Bosch. “With nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and ourtendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what’s wrong with our malnourished bodies, it’s no wonder that modern society is getting sicker. ‘Food Matters’ sets about uncovering the trillion dollar worldwide “Sickness Industry” and giving people some scientifically verifiable solutions for curing disease naturally.” – James And in what promises to be the most contentious idea put forward, the filmmakers have interviewed several world leaders in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses as fatal as terminally diagnosed cancer. ‘Food Matters’ is to be launched globally via the internet using full screen video technology. The film’s official website can be found at http Food Matters Official Trailer
